Concrete is one of the most common building materials found across Australia. From commercial properties to residential homes, almost every structure in the country has a component of concrete, whether that be as a foundationary slab or the flooring. Obviously, with so much concrete around, there are constant needs to adjust, repurpose or remove concrete, and it can be tempting to want to do these jobs yourself. After all, it is just concrete. It can't be that hard to work with, right? The answer is, in fact, yes. Concrete can be very tricky to work with, and for some jobs, you should never risk attempting renovations as an amateur. Here are three jobs you should always leave to the professionals.

Concrete Grinding

After a concrete slab is set, it is not uncommon to find ou that it is a little rough on the surface or perhaps a bit uneven. This is where concrete grinding comes in. Concrete grinders are special machines that smooth off this top layer, vacuum up all the displaced concrete particles (that often look like just like dust) and make the surface ready for either polishing or the laying of flooring. Concrete grinders are not simple machines to use, and swapping the discs out, connecting all the right attachments and then taking control of what can be quite powerful machinery is something that should be left to experts.

Concrete Drilling

Have you finished your concrete foundations but now need to put in your electrical wiring or plumbing? That is where concrete drilling comes in. Also often called concrete core drilling, concrete drilling utilises special drills with extremely tough attachments to pierce through concrete in a very neat circle. This leaves a clean space for the wiring, plumbing or whatever other fixtures need to be installed. Concrete drilling is commonly done when renovating a home or business for a new purpose and although the equipment is quite easy to rent, it is still a specialty job that shouldn't be attempted without proper training.

Concrete Removal

It will come as no shock to learn that concrete is not built to be removed, so when the need for this arises, it takes a deep understanding of concrete to do this task properly. Not only do you need a lot of equipment and manpower to remove any sizeable concrete slab or structure, but you also need somewhere to throw this concrete out after. Some concrete removal teams have special grinding bucket attachments on excavators so they can dispose of this concrete themselves. Others have good relationships with local landfill sites. One thing is for sure: they will dispose of your concrete a lot quicker than you will be able to remove it on your own with maybe a sledgehammer and the back of your ute to transport it out. Don't put yourself through hell — get a concrete removal team to do the job properly and quickly.
